{a couple things....]

hello friends...

i hope you are well!  :)

today i have a easy diy for you....

and something i recently cooked up for my girlies for christmas.

first things first...

fabric scrap letters...

you'll need:

*foam core sheet and cut out your desired letters
*fabric scraps
*scissors
*mod podge
*exacto knife
*foam brush [which i somehow forgot to photograph :)]

then you just apply mod podge...

lay down your scraps, one piece at a time, any which way...

overlapping a little as you go so no foam core peeks through...

and mod podge over the top...

then let dry...

that's it...you're done!

and then these lovelies....

my girls' first christmas presents....completed.

i'm pretty sure that they will love them...at least i hope they do.  :)

happy week, friends!

hello friends!

i really don't know where the time went.

last thing i know...we were starting august....

and here we are smack dab in the middle of september...

my apologizes for my absence. :)

this little cutie started 1st grade...

that's all day folks.

we've hit the big time now...

she gets to take a lunch and everything.  :)

things in our house have been shuffled around...

fun paper art was made and added...

it's that time of year you know....

and awesome lime green vintage-y crates couldn't be pasted up....

especially when it has a 90% off price tag.  :)

and....the coolest thing...

i happened to acquire a plethora of vintage sheets and fabric...

...and made us a quilt!  :)

i pretty much love it.  :)

[a girl, and a dolhouse]...

hello friends :)

my sil gave us an awesome, unfinished dollhouse.

the mister and i worked on it for months...

and we had planned on giving to our girls on christmas...

well...you know how that goes...

that.didn't.happen...

it was more like easter.  :)

i ordered wooden peg people online....

and painted them....

then i "wall papered" the walls with scrapbook paper...

i made curtains with fabric scraps and felt...

we found some of the furniture at michaels...

and the beds and the couch we built...

there is still more that i want to do...

like wall hangings and collages, but for now....

it works perfectly!  :)

[DIY:::fabric covered vintage suitcase]...

hello there!

well apparently i took a vacation from blogging this month...

sorry...about that...time got away from me.  :)

but to redeem my laziness...

i have a tutorial for you today...

you're welcome!  ;)

this is one of my faves actually.

it's no mystery that i collect and love vintage luggage...

i'm drawn to it.  :)

but..whist doing a bit of shuffling things around...

i discovered that two suitcase in particular looked sad...

and needed a make-over so i decided to cover the tops of them in vintage fabric...

and give one a bit of a paint job...

1. you need to measure your fabric...

making sure to leave a good inch of overhang all the way around....

then cut.

[on a side note::: i find that the tried and true carpentry rule of "measure twice, cut once" is also true with fabric projects.  ;)]

and one more time...

[upcycle::vintage mirror frame to chalkboard]...

hello there...

i hope that you all had a lovely weekend!  :)

today...i have yet another diy/upcycle post for you.

i found what i can only assume was a large vintage mirror frame in my neighbor's trash...

minus the mirror....

and painted burgundy...

but i knew that it had potential.

i wanted a large vintagey looking chalkboard for my girlies fore quite a long time.

so i painted it aqua....

and painted the mdf board with chalkboard paint....

and viola!.

much better!  ;)

[wall flowers]

hello friends!

today i bring you a solution to that tricky wall space...

where two walls meet...in the corner of a room.

i give you exhibit a...[aka::the before]...

not bad, but uninteresting.

then i had an idea...

this...

much better!

and it instantly added color and whimsy to the space!  :)

i just made regular tissue paper pom poms...like in this tutorial...

but omitted the yellow center.

most importantly, my little munchkin loves it!  :)

[upcycle::vintage wall filer to chore chart]....

my kiddos are at the age where they can start doing chores on a daily basis.

i have been trying to figure out a cute and clever way to make a chore chart.

then i happened upon this...

for $3 at goodwill....and an idea was born!

it just need a bit of cleaning....

and a bright, cheerful paint color for sure.  :)

looks better, but...well...plain...so....

i measured the front of each slot...

and cut scrapbook paper strips to fit.

then mod podged the strips to the panels...

then i made the chore cards.

i took photos for the visual cues, as my littlest munchkin can't read yet.  :)

and viola...

then i hung it on empty wall space in the kitchen...

right where my girlies are sure to see it.

tell me...what did you do this weekend!?

[cute way to maximize kitchen counter space}....

we live in a 1969 ranch...

which means that we have a small galley kitchen...

and not much counter or storage space.

to remedy that...

i came up with this...

i painted an old stool that i had on hand...

and set it on one of my counters...

added my owl vase full of kitchen utensils...

and our little "catch all" box.

underneath there is room from my retro inspired canisters [from cost plus]...

and a shadow box i made.

viola...space maximized!!  :)

on the other side of the kitchen...

i hung a shelf with a towel rack above the sink...

it also holds a set of vintage pyrex mixing bowls.

a vintage wire basket holds hand towels....since we have no available drawer.  :)

3 little canisters [also from cost plus] corral my grandmother's cookie cutters.

and there you have it...

literally...that is my kitchen tour...2 whole photos. ;)

[bloom...and turquoise paint]...

hello friends!  :)

since i could no longer stand it...

the gentlemen's dresser got a makeover.

he was so very sad looking...

and was in desperate need of color...

i love him much more now in his turquoise hue...don't you!?  :)

today...I also bring you a diy...yay!

it's the sign to the left of the crate.  :)

you will need:

a piece of foam core [any size...i cut mine to 11x14]
strips of scrapbook paper in varying widths [or fabric, or wrapping paper...etc]
embellishments of your choice
mod podge [i like the glossy kind]
a foam brush
an exacto knife

just layer your papers so that they fit on the board and mod podge away...

it really couldn't get any simpler.  :)

love this crate....

it's perfect for holding my vintage bottles.

[the ranunculus may or may not be staying...i can't decide.  this is their trial period. :)]

happy week ending!
